Dating back all the way to the 1980’s, before the internet, pornography was still a very popular and readily accessible phenomenon sweeping the nation. Many groups have tried to shut down the whole institution for the stigma it has of being very distasteful and obscene. These groups, including feminists, religious groups, and even the Reagan administration, for years, have been working toward legislation to outlaw pornography.(Suderman) What they don’t realize is that they are actually trying to remove a safe and creative sexual outlet for many people. Pornography can be defined very differently from person to person. Most people would say that it is simply words, pictures, or videos that they find sexually explicit. Also, since it is private this allows some explore what really arouses them and they can get a better understanding of their own body in the privacy of their own home without feeling ashamed of themselves in any way, shape, or form. Some websites even allow girl to expose themselves in the privacy and safety of their own home behind something as simple as a webcam or a telephone, with alternatives like this girls can explore what they want to do with their own bodies and make money without the dangers of getting into things like stripping or prostitutions. With most pornographic sources remaining behind a screen, book, audio file, phone call or magazine spread, people can practice their wildest fantasies vicariously through someone else and in some cases this provides a much safer alternative to acting out the actual fantasy itself. With such a broad range of sexual fantasies around the globe, some of these can be quite dangerous if not done properly or with the right equipment.
